When I first saw Lily, my pug dachshund as a baby, I had no intention of getting a dog; I was only there with my sister in law to help her pick a dog, but Lily stole my heart and never has given it back. She was very spunky and had a distinct marking in the shape of a crown etched into her fur and I knew she was special. She loved to rip her toys apart to get the squeaker, and of course make a mess. Lily was very independent and although she always roamed free on the property, she was trusted not to run away and never did. Lily became the alpha dog of three and I didn’t think she would ever give up that position, but she surprised me when the newest dog arrived who of course took over and Lily allowed it; it wasn’t an easy transition; lots of fights, but she conceded. Lily was kind to the cats and always welcomed them first with curiosity and then with acceptance. Lily, who was so tough, had a shy side to her and would hide her head in the nap of my neck when she was unsure of whom you are. Lily use to play coy with me when I would blow wind in her face and saying poufy; she would pretend not to pay attention and then the second time, she would attack you with love and kisses. She will never be forgotten and will always be loved. Lily passed away with a fight on July 3, 2011 and was cremated. Her ashes will be cherished until my passing and then she will be added to mine so that she will always be with me. Lily was 10 ½ years old.
